Gocek – Gulf of Fethiye – Gocek

Göcek

Gocek, located at the head of the Gulf of Fethiye on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, is a natural harbour just 22 km from Dalaman International Airport. Surrounded by the Taurus Mountains and offering stunning views of islands and sheltered bays, it’s an ideal place for peaceful sailing and reconnecting with nature.

Gocek primarily caters to yachtsmen and women, with limited nightlife, mainly consisting of a few bars and a music/dance venue. The most active hours are between 19:00 and 22:00, when bars and restaurants are buzzing. As in most seaside towns, there’s a lovely esplanade for leisurely walks.

Manastir

-

South-east of Manastir Bay, the ruins of a bath submerged in water are known as Cleopatra’s Bath or Sunken Bath Bay. A careful look at the hill behind the bay reveals a tectonic crater lake with visible water channels, once active, clearly seen from the shore.

Cleopatra Bay

-

Cleopatra Bay, also known as Hamam Bay, is believed to be where Cleopatra bathed, including during her honeymoon with Marc Antony. Located around 50 km from Fethiye, the ruins of the old hamam are now submerged, though many have been lost as the area is not protected. The volcanic structure of the cove supports the existence of a crater lake, which provided warm waters to the bathhouse in ancient times.

Tersane Island

Tersane Island is the largest island in the Gulf of Fethiye and is also called Dockyard Island. Once populated by Greeks, it was deserted in 1923 due to the population swap between Turkey and Greece. Today, the ruins of abandoned homes can still be found scattered across this picturesque island.

Bedri Rahmi Bay

-

Bedri Rahmi Bay, also known by the Lycian name Tasyaka or ‘dark bay,’ is famous for its natural beauty and historical significance. Bedri Rahmi Eyuboglu, a renowned Turkish master of literature, art, and painting, drew a fish on a large rock during a cruise in the summer of 1973. This ‘Fish Rock,’ located at the entrance of the blue bay, still greets visitors, and the region is known as ‘Fish Rock’ in his honor.

Fethiye

-

Fethiye is a natural harbor city in the western Mediterranean, known for its magnificent beauty and ancient Lycian towns. Oludeniz, considered the most beautiful beach in Turkey, is nearby and a popular starting point for yacht cruises. If all places and seas had a color, Fethiye’s would be turquoise.

The word turquoise refers to a blue with a hint of green, inspired by Turkish tile work. The most beautiful shade of blue can be seen on the waters of Oludeniz, especially at sunset, when the turquoise hue is unmatched by any other sea.
